I've been mulling it over for a couple of weeks now and, I think, I've decided to close my Etsy shop, at least for awhile. I never started the shop for a profit (would have been nice!). I initially started it to sell handmade scarves and accessories. Somehow that morphed into selling the pendants that I've been peddling for the past couple of years.
I want to say I don't have the time to dedicate to the shop that I should be putting into it. But, that's not really true. I could make the time if I really wanted it. A successful Etsy shop requires a lot of constant and continuous time and dedication to self marketing and such. I feel like my crafting life may be taking a different route. I love the little pendants I've been creating, selling and giving as gifts. But, lately I find myself spread a bit thin. I knit, crochet, sew and create ATC's. I've been doing the latter the most. I want to finish up some knitting projects and work on my crochet and sewing skills as well. I've participated in a couple of ATC swaps and really enjoy those. I'd also like to do something about our backyard. As in, we need one. We bought the house new but, it came with no backyard landscaping and we live in the desert so, everyday I'm staring at an ugly backyard and I'm kinda tired of it.
I also need to get back into yoga. I'll be 48 this year and exercise in general needs to more of a priority in my life. That goes for reading too. I've only been reading at night before I go to sleep. When I have time during the day to read I feel like I'm wasting my time and reading should never be thought of as a waste of time. I find myself wanting to simplify and minimize things in my life and yes, closing for now is the good thing to do.
Maybe I'll open the shop again. I'm a firm believer in never say never but, in the mean time in order to pare down on some overstock I'll be having some giveaways!
Here is a nice pre-spring giveaway:
It a 1x1 inch square pendant set in a bronze base with a glass overlay. It will come on an 18 inch black satin ribbon.
If you are interested in participating just leave me a comment and I'll do a random drawing on Friday March 1st.
Good Luck!

Well, I think your pendants are just gorgeous! I had an etsy shop and closed it because I was getting zero traffic on it. Even when I tried a search specifically tailored to find my stuff, it didn't show up. With the zillions of pages on there how can you be seen without shelling out money to advertise. No thank you. Anyway, your stuff is great - you should be really proud of it@

Thanks Lisa. I agree. I love etsy but there is too much traffic and I don't want to shell out money for advertising either. Good Luck!

I love that pendant!
ReplyDeleteIt can seem sad to end a venture, but sometimes it's the right decision. Etsy is a vast rabbit hole these days making it hard to stand out among all the other sellers. I'll look forward to reading about your future crafting adventures here on your blog.
I would love a chance to win your pendant, it is lovely. Saw you on Ozma of Odds blog! Di@Cottage-Wishes
