Autumn in the Garden

When the frosty kiss of Autumn in the dark
Makes its mark
On the flowers, and the misty morning grieves
Over fallen leaves;
Then my olden garden, where the golden soil
Through the toil
Of a hundred years is mellow, rich, and deep,
Whispers in its sleep.

'Mid the crumpled beds of marigold and phlox,
Where the box
Borders with its glossy green the ancient walks,
There's a voice that talks
Of the human hopes that bloomed and withered here
Year by year,--
Dreams of joy, that brightened all the labouring hours,
Fading as the flowers.

Yet the whispered story does not deepen grief;
But relief
For the loneliness of sorrow seems to flow
From the Long-Ago,
When I think of other lives that learned, like mine,
To resign,
And remember that the sadness of the fall
Comes alike to all.

What regrets, what longings for the lost were theirs!
And what prayers
For the silent strength that nerves us to endure
Things we cannot cure!
Pacing up and down the garden where they paced,
I have traced
All their well-worn paths of patience, till I find
Comfort in my mind.

Faint and far away their ancient griefs appear:
Yet how near
Is the tender voice, the careworn, kindly face,
Of the human race!
Let us walk together in the garden, dearest heart,
Not apart!
They who know the sorrows other lives have known
Never walk alone.

It's Autumn....

It's been Autumn for awhile now but, for me it officially starts after Halloween. Halloween is its own season all together. Also, in Southern Nevada it doesn't really feel like autumn until November. In October we are still in the high 70's and 80's. On Tuesday the temps will drop down to the mid 60's and the leaves on the trees are just starting to change color.

I hope you all had a lovely Halloween. Of course, I didn't get to do even a smidgen of things on my list and my 100 days of Halloween blog posts are practically non-existent due to my work schedule. One day though I promise to get better at it.

It's time to go inside. Not indoors, but inside ourselves and reflect on the year that's been and dream of  things to come.

It's time to go for walks on windy days and let the gusts tousle my hair.
It's time to listen to leaves crunching under my feet and watch them scurry across the sidewalks.
It's time to drink hot tea and eat apple pie and cuddle on the couch with a big bowl of popcorn and watch movies and read books.
It's time to knit and crochet with warm, woolly yarns.

Well, look at me waxing poetic! Anyhoo, here are some pics of pretty places!

Enjoy and Happy Autumn!
