100 Days of Halloween...Vintage Images

Here's a sweet little witch for you.......

and another......

I love this black kitty image. I've made this one into a pendant that I sold on my Etsy shop, it was a favorite there as well and I sold several.
Feel free to use the images in your craft projects. I only post images that are in the public domain so no copyrights are violated.

Not including today we are now at 87 days till Halloween but, whose counting? I am!!! Also, at one of the empty stores in the strip mall by my house I saw the best sign....Spirit Halloween Store! I don't think they are open until mid August but I will keep you posted. I got so excited when I saw the sign, that I screamed and, my husband thought I was going to hit a car or something!

100 Days of Halloween... Halloween in My House, All Year Long

I love Halloween so much that I keep bits of it out all year long. Here are a couple of photos of some things that I have around my house that remind me of Halloween. I apologize for the quality of the photos. I had to take them with my phone.

The Black Cat of Salem Picture

This is actually a card I bought in Salem, MA a few years ago. I bought it with the purpose of framing it. Salem is, I think, my all time favorite vacation spot. I hope to go there someday during their Haunted Happenings.

Spooky House Picture

This is a drawing done by my aunt many, many years ago. I think she was an art student at the time she did it and must have been doing a study in line drawing. It hung in my grandparents house for many years and I'm not quite sure how I ended up with it. I don't think my aunt had it in mind to draw a picture of a "spooky house" but, I can imagine the picture with a little ghost popping its head out of one of the windows and a few bats flying around it. I love to imagine what the inside would look like. This picture hangs next to the Black Cat one and, I see then everyday when I walk in the door.

Witch ATC and Glitter Globe

These two items are on a little bookshelf I have in the living room. The picture of the witch is the first artist trading card I created and the witch glitter globe I bought in Salem, I think the same time I bought the Black Cat card.

I have a couple of other items around the house but, I didn't have the chance to take pictures. I'll post those on another day. I hope you're enjoying the 100 Days of Halloween. I know I am!

Thanks,
Joane

I love Halloween but, I don't like that kind of Halloween....

I was tickled the other day when to my surprise I see a Halloween Express store at the local strip mall! And, at another mall was a Spirit Halloween store. It seems Halloween comes early to the Las Vegas area. So, of course I meandered in to soak up some trick or treat goodness.

I was kind of disappointed. Not because the store didn't have a good supply of costumes, zombies and gore items but, I think it was because I was looking for a different type of Halloween. The gore and sexy costumes have their place but, not in my Halloween world.

I'm still trying to define what exactly what it is I'm looking for in Halloween. I guess I'm a vintage type of gal. I like jack o' lanterns with sneaky grins and black cats like the image below.....
And witches riding broomsticks across the night sky......
And caramel apples.....

Whether you like gore, sexy costumes, monsters or cute little goblins and fairy princesses knocking on your door for candy, Halloween is a state of mind. Everyone has a different idea of what it should be. Unfortunately, I can't go to these commercial Halloween stores to get my fix. For me to get a true Halloween fix I'd need to go to Salem, MA but, that's not in the cards right now. I guess I'll have to create my own Halloween state of mind, I'm not sure what I'll come up with but, I promise to share whatever discoveries I may find.

What kind of Halloween do you like?

Black Cat by Rainer Maria Rilke

Black Cat
A ghost, though invisible, still is like a place
your sight can knock on, echoing; but here
within this thick black pelt, your strongest gaze
will be absorbed and utterly disappear:

just as a raving madman, when nothing else
can ease him, charges into his dark night
howling, pounds on the padded wall, and feels
the rage being taken in and pacified.

She seems to hide all looks that have ever fallen
into her, so that, like an audience,
she can look them over, menacing and sullen,
and curl to sleep with them. But all at once

as if awakened, she turns her face to yours;
and with a shock, you see yourself, tiny,
inside the golden amber of her eyeballs
suspended, like a prehistoric fly.

Rainer Maria Rilke
